Chevrolet has already confirmed the existence of the highly-anticipated 2020 Corvette. Despite the media mileage being thrown into the supercar, one particular information has been left out, and it would appear that Chevrolet doesn't know what it is. As of this writing, the 2020 Corvette still doesn't have a confirmed top speed.
In a recent interview, General Motors President Mark Reuss told GM Authority, "We still need to test that."
In a separate interview with Motor1, Mr Reuss said, "We are not releasing all the performance data at this time. We'll have more to share in the future."
Despite this secrecy, many in the supercar community already have their speculation as to how the new Corvette will perform on the road. Chevrolet did confirm some of the car's specs, and that should be enough for some to estimate at least how the car will transform it into real-world performance.
At the heart of the 2020 Corvette is a 6.2-liter V8 engine with an internal company designation of LT2. That engine is quite a beast. The one equipped with the optional Z51 Performance Package is rated to be able to produce up to 495 horsepower. This massive power is delivered into all four wheels through the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. With these high-end pieces of hardware at its heart, the 2020 Corvette is capable of reaching zero to 60mph in less than three seconds.
While the coupe is billed as a performance car, there are a number of features that points to a possibility that the car might be driver-friendly. This means that it might not be as fast as everyone believes it to be. The car features a new mid-engine layout which gives it a lower hood and cowl, thus improving driver visibility.
On the inside, the 2020 Corvette features a control panel that closely resembles a fighter plane's control panel rather than that of a car. Should customers opt to pick the Z51 Performance Package, it includes improved car and engine cooling, bigger brakes, and an upgraded exhaust. The package also comes preinstalled with the latest version of Chevy's Magnetic Ride Control suspension.
As for its price tag, the 2020 Chevy is expected to pick a price tag of $60,000 for its base model. However, as with almost all cars, upgrading it will take that price tag significantly higher. Chevrolet said that it should be able to start deliveries of the 2020 Corvette within the latter part of the year.
