The Code season 2 is not happening on CBS as the military legal drama was not renewed on the network after one season. The news comes following the season 1 finale earlier this week, which also serves as the series finale. Several stars of the series also confirmed the show is not coming back for another season.
In her Twitter post, series star Dana Delany (plays Colonel Glenn Turnbull) thanked everyone who watched The Code and said that the recently aired episode would also be the last for the series. The actress added that she loves working with the show's stellar actors and hoping that they'll meet again. At the end of her post, Delany wrote: "Semper Fidelis".
Thank you to all you wonderful people who watched @TheCodeCBS. Last night was our finale and sadly, no more. I’ll never make General. But I loved this cast of stellar actors & know we’ll meet again. Semper Fidelis. pic.twitter.com/kqjcZBTRzo — Dana Delany (@DanaDelany) July 23, 2019
Luke Mitchell (Captain John 'Abe' Abraham) also shared a Twitter post confirming that The Code season 2 has been canceled and the show has come to an end after one season. He revealed that he's disappointed he wouldn't have the chance to work with other stars again, but also said he is grateful and proud of the show they have made, and then thanked everyone who watched the program.
Unfortunately it’s true... @TheCodeCBS has come to an end and while I’m disappointed that I don’t get to continue this particular adventure with these stellar humans, I feel very grateful for, and proud of, the show we made. Thank you so much to everyone who watched!! #TheCode pic.twitter.com/e8aY3O2qII — Luke Mitchell (@LukeMitchell__) July 24, 2019
The Code started as strong program, wherein the premiere episode back in April earned a 0.73 rating in 18-49 demographic and a total of 8.13 million viewers. However, those numbers dropped since then, and just one week following its pilot episode, the demo reportedly decreased to 0.53 rating and the total viewers to 4.45 million.
The rating of the military legal drama didn't improve until it reaches its season finale. The July 1 and July 8 episodes had a 0.41 rating and only about 3.92 million total viewers, while the penultimate episode was the lowest with 0.3 in the demo and 3.25 million total viewers.
The Code, however, actually performed better compared to Blood & Treasure, a show which was already renewed for another season. Despite that, The Code season 2 was still canceled and some believed it has something to do with the financial benefits. The military legal drama was reportedly designed to be an in-season show - which is usually expensive, while Blood & Treasures has been planned for the summer.
Meanwhile, aside from Delany and Mitchell, other cast members of The Code includes Raffi Barsoumian, Phillipa Soo, Ato Essandoh, and Anna Wood. The series aired on the CBS, created by Craig Turk and Craig Sweeney. Christine Moore, Sarah Timberman, Carl Beverly, and Marc Webb served as executive producers alongside Turk and Sweeney.
The Code follows soldiers who are tackling the toughest legal challenges they face in the U.S. Marine Corps. These Marines were either investigators, prosecutors, and defense lawyers wherein they work together to serve the country while at the same time operating out of Judge Advocate General Headquarters in Quantico.
