Camilla Parker Bowles is now being criticized after she altered Princess Diana's famous diamond and emerald necklace. The Duchess of Cornwall altered the necklace into a brooch when she celebrated her 72nd birthday last week.
Until today, the controversial necklace's ownership remains debatable. Princess Diana owned the jewel after marrying Prince Charles in 1981. The necklace is a 150-year-old royal family heirloom she received from the late Queen Mother when she was welcomed as her granddaughter-in-law into the royal family.
Princess Diana adored the necklace when she was still alive. She was seen wearing it many times during royal outings like the gala at the Vienna Burgh Theater on April 1986. She wore a Catherine Walker designed sequined emerald green dress and emerald earrings with it.
The princess wished in her will that her possessions including the diamond and emerald necklace to be divided to her two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. She wrote that she would like to allocate all her jewelry to the share to be held by her sons, so that their wives may, in due course, have it or use it.
The pendant on the necklace belongs to Queen Elizabeth while the necklace is the property of the princess. The piece of jewelry was automatically added to the collection of his new wife, Camilla, when Prince Charles remarried.
Many of Princess Diana's fans were quick to notice the alteration that Camilla had made on the jewel when the Duchess of Cornwall celebrated her 72nd birthday earlier this month. She turned it into a brooch. The Duchess was criticized because of it, and some said that she was in poor taste.
One of her critics said that she has no shame. Others even said that she had no shame when she broke up the marriage, why would she have any now?
Kate Middleton is in the news earlier this year when she removed the diamonds from the earrings she had inherited from her late mother-in-law. Kate inherited many of the jewelry of Princess Diana. She now owns an engagement ring made of two diamonds that Harry found in his mother's collection. She also owns a pair of sapphire earrings from Diana's collection given by her husband, Prince William.
The emerald-cut aquamarine cocktail ring that Diana always wore is now in Meghan's ownership. It was the ring Diana wore after her marriage to Prince Charles because she no longer wants to wear her engagement ring.
