Netflix's newest sitcom Family Reunion began its first part's run on the streaming platform last July 10 with 10 episodes. Now, subscribers who have seen the show wonder if the series will be renewed for another run after positive feedback.
The good news is that Family Reunion part 2 has been confirmed long before the show debuted its episodes. The cast and crew have been working hard on 20 scripts, to represent 20 episodes, before the show's July premiere.
As of press time, however, Netflix has not yet announced when the next 10 episodes will air, but according to What's On Netflix, it will likely be released by the end of 2019. There's also still no word whether Family Reunion will be renewed for part 3 and 4 eventually.
Family Reunion is created by Meg DeLoatch and follows a family of six, the McKellans, as they uproot their lives in Seattle to settle with extended family in Georgia. Unused to three-hour church services and the humidity, the McKellans have to learn how to cope with life in this Georgian suburb. It's a good thing living close to a big family means that there will always be home-cooked meals to feast on.
The series stars Tia Mowry, Anthony Alabi, Talia Jackson, Isaiah Russell-Bailey, Cameron J. Wright, Jordyn Raya James, and Loretta Devine. Family Reunion has been hailed for being an authentic show about a black family despite the comedy. Creator DeLoatch told Deadline that she specifically hired an all-black writing staff and an all-black cast to be able to flesh out their real experiences.
"I am extremely proud of this show," the creator said. "It is a true collaboration, with everyone on this production, from the cast and writers, to the directors, staff, and crew, contributing personal stories and traditions to help make our family dynamic and relatable."
At the end of the Family Reunion part 1, the McKellans had an encounter with the cops, and it's still unclear how they will get out of this fix. The McKellan kids had been mowing the neighbor's lawn when they were locked out of the house. They tried to break in when they couldn't find spare keys, and that's when the police came to accost the children.
It was a tense situation that was a big lesson for the McKellan kids. However, their encounter with the cops made them feel unsafe in Georgia, and they are now contemplating moving back to Seattle. Will that happen in Family Reunion part 2?
