Apparently, Nintendo has finally decided to begin repairing the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con issue for free and would issue refunds for previous Joy-Con repairs. This appears like a generous change of heart for the Japanese gaming console maker but also a convenient move, especially now that players are beginning to turn up the heat over the defective hardware. The latest solution was not announced by the company but from a leaked internal memo.

The Nintendo Switch Joy-Con drift has been one of the recurring problems many users experienced shortly after the release of the hybrid console. This is a stressful hardware issue where the analog sticks of the Joy-Con begin drifting. In other words, the console read movement from the analog sticks even if they are not moved by the player.

Officially, Nintendo's response has been very vague, and recently, it even launched a new set of Joy-Con that added insult to the injury. Nintendo Switch users even have to pay a fee and show proof that their devices are still under warranty just to qualify for in-house repair service. However, just recently, Vice got an internal company memo of Nintendo instructing the customer support personnel to provide Joy-Con repair for free without the need for any official documentation.

The memo states that customers will no longer be asked to show proof of purchase to qualify for the Joy-Con repair. In addition, there is no need to confirm the warranty status of the device. Not only is Nintendo not charging for the Joy-Con repair, they reportedly provide refunds for Nintendo Switch users who had paid the repair fee on their Joy-Con.

This is not yet officially confirmed by Nintendo, so, for now, Nintendo Switch users should take this information with a pinch of salt. For several months, users have been complaining about the Joy-Con controllers. Some reported that they experienced problems with the joystick drifting that creates false inputs.

Several players noticed that the issue with their Joy-Con started as the Nintendo switch age. Some tech sites claim that there are a couple of major potential reasons for the Joy-Con drift. One is that it could be due to debris or dust getting into the controller and under the rubber cap designed to protect the interior and keep it clean.

The other possible cause could be that users disassembled the controller and discovered that the contacts are worn-out. This could be the possible cause of the problem which is caused by repetitive use. It is also possible that neither of the two theories are accurate and that the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con drift issue could be due to some other reasons.
