Car manufacturer Ford has confirmed in the past that the company is working on an electric version of its iconic F-150 truck. Since then, not much was revealed as to what the progress of the electric F-150 is, until recently. Ford recently released a video showing off the power and capability of the electric F-150.
Despite being just a prototype, the electric F-150 is already powerful enough to two 1.25 million pounds. Many have praised Ford's engineers for their skill and ability to craft such a powerful machine. On the first demonstration, F-150 chief engineer Linda Zhang drown the electric truck as it pulls a double-decker rail cars. On the second demonstration, a fleet of 24 regular F-150 trucks was brought into the rail cars in order to add weight.
Ford has yet to reveal the official towing capabilities of the electric F-150. However, based on these demonstrations alone, it would appear that the company has packed a lot of strength on the pickup.
It is important to note here that electric cars are not exactly known for their mileage, compared to a traditional car. Electric cars, albeit powerful, have been limited by their batteries. Which is why many skeptics have commented that while the electric F-150 is capable of pulling extremely heavy loads, the main question remains: can it do so in extended range?
Ford is not the only company that has its eyes towards the development of an electric pickup truck. Tesla, one of the pioneers of the electric car industry, is also planning to build one. Tesla chief executive officer Elon Musk have confirmed that the company is indeed working on an electric truck which it plans to release this year. The most interesting note on this is that the truck will only cost $50,000.
Musk received quite a lot of flak a couple of weeks ago when he claimed that Tesla's electric car will be more powerful than an F-150 and will be a "better sports car than a standard 911."
As for Ford, the company has recently invested $500 million into Rivian. Moreover, Rivian have noted that it has already received quite a lot of reservations for its touted R1T electric truck. Rivian said that its deliveries of the R1T electric truck will start to roll out by next year.
Ford has confirmed that it is also working on its own electric truck. However, the company has yet to provide a timeline or the status of this particular project.
