Jensen Ackles confessed that he went through a hard time accepting that Supernatural season 15 will be the end of his long-running show on The CW. The actor confirmed that he had to call up some people to help him process what was going on.
Ackles, who plays Dean Winchester on Supernatural season 15, revealed that he couldn't understand his feelings over the confirmation that the show was ending. He realized, however, that he was too attached to the show, so it was hard for him to let go.
"I made a few phone calls to some folks to get their opinion, and asked them, 'Why am I tripping over this?' and I realized I'm just too close to it," Ackles said, per Digital Spy. "Any sense of finale to that... I just wasn't going to accept it."
But the actor's outlook is different now after coming to terms with the end of Supernatural season 15. He said that he had found clarity before they could start filming the final season.
The CW confirmed that Supernatural season 15 would begin its final run on Thursday, Oct. 10, at 8:00 p.m. The last season will contain 20 episodes, as opposed to the usual 24 episodes, to tie up loose ends and give the fans a satisfactory ending.
Ackles will be directing the fourth episode of Supernatural season 15, per Nerds and Beyond. The cast and crew started work for this episode last July 18.
The finale episode director of Supernatural season 15 will be Matt Cohen. He also played the younger version of John Winchester in the series.
A lot of familiar faces are expected to return on Supernatural season 15 including Alexander Calvert (as Jack). Showrunner Andrew Dabb also said that Jake Abel would be back to play the long-lost Winchester half-brother, Adam. This means that the character has escaped the cage where he was holed up since the fifth season.
But will Supernatural season 15 end with death? In earlier interviews, the cast thinks a major character will be sacrificing his life. However, executive producer Robert Singer told TV Insider that the finale would not be a "total downer." On the flip side, Singer is also not promising that the end of Supernatural season 15 will be filled with "butterflies and sweetness."
Supernatural debuted in 2005 in the defunct network The WB. A year later, the show was added to The CW's roster when The WB merged with UPN.
