After a few weeks of speculating, fans can now rest as Absentia has been officially renewed by Amazon for another season. Despite the rumors of cancellation that circulated after the second season run, the platform has already confirmed and given the green light to the thriller series.
According to Cartermatt, Amazon failed to discuss the status of the show's future during its recent tour. And based on the words of its main cast member, Stana Katic, during the interview, the writer's room is ready but no word has heard yet from Amazon. Even so, things have become much clearer recently when Meaww revealed that the show has been given the green light.
The viewership ratings have remained static for its first two runs. And although the viewership numbers are not largely disclosed by the streaming platform, critics believe that Absentia remains to be one of the thrilling series of recent times. This is why it is not surprising as to why the show has been renewed.
In terms of filming and production, Deadline shared that the whole crew and cast are already set. And it will start soon in Bulgaria. But as for the specific dates and timelines, little has been shared about the matter.
When Absentia Season 2 ended its course, it left the fans with a few hanging questions. Not to mention, the last few moments of the season also uncovered several revelations which made the fans much "thirsty" for a new installment.
Unfortunately, there is no word or any update yet for its plot. But a few critics suggest that Nick, Emily, and Flynn will be in a much newer place when the new season arrives. But even so, it is believed the Emily will remain in the hands of the FBI following their requests and demands.
Also, recent headlines state that Matthew Le Nevez, who plays the role of FBI Special Agent Cal Isaac, will be much more apparent in the new season. It is hinted that he will become much "reliant" on Emily which would then lead to "dig deeper" with his personal life. Accordingly, the relationship between the two characters is seemingly speculated to be explored in Absentia Season 3.
So far, these are the only details that have been shared about the series. And there are considerations that updates and details will be disclosed once the filming and production start later this year.
