Ming-Chi Kuo, touted "the most accurate Apple analyst in the world," gave investors a new tip claiming that the three iPhones scheduled for 2020 launch will feature support for 5G. Bold claim, but Kuo has so far been accurate over the years, so this may be something that we'll likely see next year.

Kuo previously said that the 2020 iPhones could be available in new sizes: a 5.4 and 6.7-inch high-end iPhones with OLED displays, along with a 6.1-inch model with an OLED display. He also said that only two of the three new iPhones scheduled for 2020 launch would support 5G. However, it seems as though Apple intends to be fiercer than the competition, given the several well-spec'd Android phones in the market these days ready to offer 5G support.

Kuo also confirmed that Apple will have much more to offer when it comes to 5G technology now that it has acquired Intel's smartphone modem chip business.

Published in MacRumors are Kuo's reasons why he believes all three new 2020 iPhone models will support 5G:

The report, leaked to MacRumors, contains this quote:

  1. Apple has more resource for developing the 5G iPhone after the acquisition of Intel baseband business.

  1. We expect that the prices of 5G Android smartphones will decline to $249-349 USD in 2H20.

  1. Boosting 5G developments could benefit Apple's AR ecosystem.

The report also indicates that the upcoming iPhones will support both mmWave and Sub-6GHz spectrum (two different kinds of 5G) for the US market. We still don't know if Apple plans to launch a more affordable 5G iPhone for the Chinese market.

mmWave is the 'fastest 5G' that's most often referred to, but as it is suited to denser, urban areas. Rural or suburban areas use sub-6GHz 5G. It's not as fast as mmWAVE, but these are all faster than 4G, with mmWave being the fastest.

However, while the report comes just days after Apple announced that it was acquiring a "majority" of Intel's modem business for $1 billion, MacRumors says that the company isn't quite ready to switch away from Qualcomm, and that it won't likely be until 2021 before it can use its own version.

Smartphone companies, including Apple, know that customers will go the extra mile to experience what 5G technology can do so they are employing the tech in their newer line of gadgets. As for Apple customers, who are known for their willingness to pay more, this is another reason to watch out for the 2020 iPhones.
