It's been over a year since we last received an update on the highly anticipated The Last of Us: Part II, but one of its voice actors managed to spill out some beans this weekend. Speaking at Manchester Comic-Con, Troy Baker, who plays Joel in the series, was careful not to overshare, but he did suggest that the project is coming together too well than they ever imagined.
"I can tell you this: it's hands down the most ambitious game that Naughty Dog has ever done for sure," he said with enthusiasm, as part of a larger interview which will be published on Push Square later this week. "It's far larger than I thought was going to be possible."
We're all excited for the Part 2 to come out given that the waiting has been too long, and luckily, Baker was asked what he thinks about actress Ashley Johnson's recent slip up. For those of you out of the loop, the Ellie star seemed to suggest that the sequel will be out in February, but her co-star seemed confused by the apparent error.
The actor maintained that he has no idea when The Last of Us: Part 2 will come out, and said that Naughty Dog meant for that to happen to avoid slip-ups. He then recollected the last time they slipped, saying they never want that to happen again.
Nolan North from Uncharted was also present during the interview, who chimed "they're not going to release it until they're ready to release it." So we have no way of knowing when The Last of Us: Part 2 will launch, but if we're going to interpret what Baker said in the interview, then the wait could be longer than expected. But we do understand why the award-winning developer is taking its time.
Either way, we simply have to learn more soon - it's been far too long since our last public update on the project. So far, only the stars of the popular title have been open to interviews. The devs have pretty much, been mum in the past year, offering no update, videos, or even the timeline of the game's progress.
The Last of Us Part II is in development for PS4. As of writing, no official word has been given out regarding a release date or a port for the next PlayStation.
