Tobias Menzies has let it slip when The Crown season 3 shall drop on Netflix. The actor is playing Prince Philip in the new installment as the main cast has been changed to reflect an older royal family.

The actor was chatting on a talk show on BBC when he mentioned that The Crown season 3 should start its run this November, per E! News. Netflix hasn't made any official announcement thus far, except to confirm that the series will be on the platform in the second half of 2019.

Menzies is starring opposite Olivia Colman, who has taken over the role of Queen Elizabeth from Emmy winner Claire Foy. The Crown season 3 will begin in 1964 and will slightly shift its focus on a twenty-something Prince Charles (played by Josh O'Connor) and his future second wife Camilla (played by Emerald Fennell).

The roles of Princess Margaret and Antony Armstrong-Jones have also been recast for the third season. Helena Bonham-Carter and Ben Daniels are playing the characters this time around.

The Crown season 3 will depict major events during the tenure of Prime Minister Harold Wilson (played by Jason Watkins). It will cover the Queen's visit to Aberfan, a mining disaster site, and the rise of the Beatles. The historical moon landing of Apollo 11 will also be featured in the storyline.

"Philip gets very absorbed by the heroism of these men compared to what maybe he hasn't done with his own life," Menzies told Radio Times about the struggles and challenges of his character in The Crown season 3. "Prince Philip is a pretty interesting person, and there's a lot going on. He's a complex person. I've been very intrigued by his life, and I hold him in high regard."

Menzies wasn't supposed to play Prince Philip as the role originally went to Paul Bettany. However, the actor dropped out of the project due to conflicts in his schedule; thus, Menzies was signed on to star.

The Crown season 3 was filmed simultaneously with The Crown season 4 thus there could be a shorter break between these two seasons on Netflix. The characters of Lady Diana (played by Emma Corrin) and Margaret Thatcher (played by Gillian Anderson) are the key figures of the fourth installment.

Meanwhile, the first two seasons of The Crown are still available for streaming on Netflix.
