Is the public ready to accept Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall to be their next queen? While Prince Charles's wife seems to be moderately visible in the media given that more attention is given to the younger royals like Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, the duchess is steadily performing her royal duties.
Based on a report by YouGov in late 2018, the Duchess of Cornwall is only the 10th most popular royal with Prince Harry taking on the top spot, Queen Elizabeth II, in second place and future king Prince William in third place. Camilla was preceded in the list by Kate Middleton, her father in law Prince Philip, Meghan Markle, her husband Prince Charles, sister in law Princess Anne and her daughter Zara Phillips, Insider reported.
The poll showed that while the occupants of the top three spots had an approval rating over 70 percent, Camila, received only a 29 percent approval rating. This is still a significant improvement over her 2017 approval rating, which was only pegged at 14 percent.
Those who were surveyed did give the Duchess of Cornwall positive feedback and described her as genuine and down to earth. Those who have worked closely with Prince Charles' second wife have also praised her for her strength and determination despite the negative public acceptance at the beginning of her marriage.
Palace insiders had said that while before, they devised strategic plans to gain people's acceptance for the Duchess of Cornwall, they have since abandoned those plans and left her to grow organically, and break through the barriers of prejudice in her way, MSN reported.
"She was left to do things her way - and slowly, she gained acceptance, simply by going out there and pressing the flesh. It's extraordinary how deep-rooted prejudice melts away when people meet her," the Palace insider explained.
Camila has also been working hard to support her husband in his royal duties. It was reported that last year, along with supporting Prince Charles' 507 royal engagements, the Duchess of Cornwall completed 219 public engagements of her own, which is even more than those attended by Prince Harry and Kate Middleton.
She has also used her voice to advocating worthy causes like University of Aberdeen to the National Osteoporosis Society, supporting victims of rape and sexual abuse, as well as the advancement of literacy and animal welfare.
