Rumors have it that the next Apple MacBook will be a 16-inch MacBook Pro. Previous reports reveal the resolution and display of the upcoming machine. Recently, a new set of details surfaced online revealing more about the specs of the 16-inch MacBook Pro including the possibility of running on Intel Coffee Lake CPU and replacing the current 15-inch MacBook Pro model.

Apple To Stop Developing 15-Inch MacBook Pro

Several industry watchers according to several reports claim that Apple will no longer produce 15-inch MacBook Pro models after November 2019. At present, it is not yet clear if the current 15-inch model of MacBook will cease to exist once the 16-inch MacBook Pro is released. But, several industry experts believe that this scenario might happen.

OEM and panel suppliers, as well as industry insiders, were previously quoted saying that no new 15-inch models will enter into production post-November of this year. Jeff Lin of IHA Markit said that approximately 39,000 units of the 16-inch MacBook Pro will be produced every month starting September 2019.

Leaked Specs

The 16-inch MacBook Pro according to analyst Jeffrey Lin will have Intel's latest 8-core Coffee Lake H processor. This is the same CPU that is currently on the 15-inch MacBook Pro. Most likely, the base model will be a six-core Intel Coffee Lake processor, and the higher model will have the eight-core CPU.

As for the display, previous reports claimed that the 16-inch MacBook Pro will have the same dimension as the 15-inch MacBook Pro model. In terms of display, the upcoming machine will have a 3072 x 1920 pixels resolution, which is higher compared to the 15-inch MacBook Pro model. Additionally, the 16-inch MacBook Pro, according to reports, will have slimmer bezels to provide more screen estate without using a bigger chassis.

Release Date

The 16-inch MacBook Pro is expected to arrive next year. The same prediction was shared by popular market analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who believes that the device might be available to the public by 2020 or 2021. Intel has not yet announced the desktop counterpart of its 10nm Ice Lake processor, so it is not surprising to hear news of Apple utilizing its desktop counterpart for its processor.

The 16-inch MacBook Pro is also rumored to be retailed at $3000 for its base model. These information are not officially confirmed by Apple and are predictions or speculations. And, just like all other leaks and speculations, it is best to take these details with a pinch of salt.
