There's no better way to describe a failed marriage, especially to one's children. Even though the approach was planned and subtle, young people cannot understand the real depth of the situation. In most cases, even the parties involved cannot explain what went wrong as they needed someone to come in between them, like a marriage counselor. However, that wasn't for the case of Princess Diana and Prince Charles.
The problem of depression and incompatibility already rocked the early years of marriage of the Prince and Princess of Wales, and they were said to be clueless about how to solve it. The marriage was full of emotion and clashes of interests that one of them choose to stay away while the other was hoping that she will be noticed.
Unfortunately, the foundation of love for Princess Diana and Prince Charles was never that strong. In fact, before their wedding, they had a few royal engagements together to get to know themselves better. Another thing is that Prince Charles still have feelings for Camilla Parker-Bowles and, even though she was already married, the now-Duchess of Cornwall always kept a special place for Prince Charles.
Camilla Parker-Bowles' marriage with Andrew Parker Bowles did not survive too and, when Prince Charles came into the picture after his divorce from Princess Diana, everything was a total complication. The late royal revealed on her controversial Panorama interview that they are three in the marriage and it is quite crowded and, from there, the royal sons of Princess Diana were already involved, and they are the ones badly hurt by the situation.
Princess Diana had to talk to Prince William in school, and it was on that fateful day that he had to tell him about her and his father's failed marriage, trying to bring it out without anger or resentment for Prince Charles as much as possible. However, being a deep thinker that he is, Prince William already knew what was going on, and most especially about Camilla Parker-Bowles.
For the young Prince Harry, he had to learn the unfortunate news on TV after Princess Diana shocked the whole world about her revelations. With that approach, Princess William already thought that it was too much for their family to be like a media circus, and even suggested to his mother to leave England.
As for Prince Charles, his sons have no choice but to accept the situation more so with the tragic death of their mother. Even though he might not know how his mother reacted to the scandals of their marriage, Prince William recalls Princess Diana on his speech during the Child Bereavement Charity in 2014; he emphasized how he feels an emptiness especially on special days like Mother's Day.
Prince Charles keeps a special place for his sons in his heart, while Prince William and Prince Harry let him be the best father to them. Despite their bitter past, these royals have learned their lessons well and decided to move forward even without Princess Diana.
