On Valentine’s Day, The Kissing Booth lead actors took to Twitter to confirm that the sequel is happening. And with the overwhelming reception toward the Netflix Original flick, it is not surprising at all why the platform has decided to give the green light for The Kissing Booth 2.
According to Variety, there is not much information that has been given about the sequel’s plot and premise. For all everyone knows, it will still feature all the original cast members. So probably, the upcoming film will focus on Elle and Noah’s relationship and the fact that Noah will be away for Harvard.
It is worth noting that the sequel of the novel series is already revealed in the online community. And based on the premise of the paperback, it seemingly appears that Elle and Noah will face the challenges of being in a long-distance relationship.
During this period, when calls and texts are the only things that connect the young couple, Elle finds Noah being “too friendly” with a girl from college. Likewise, a new character, Levi, is revealed to go after Elle as he is definitely into her.
So far, these are the only details that have been shared about The Kissing Booth 2: Going The Distance. And it is yet to be revealed if Netflix will also adapt the title and whole premise of the novel series. Even so, it is highly likely that there will be deviations that will happen in the sequel film.
When The Kissing Booth first arrived on Netflix back in May of 2018, it immediately received a positive reception from the fans. The viewership records “skyrocketed” after a few weeks despite having negative reviews from several film critics. As it happened, they find this “young-adult” flick a very “cliché” and “misogynistic” film. But even so, the streaming platform took it as a huge success due to the fans’ wide consumption of the material.
In 2018, the film was deemed as Netflix’s “most rewatched” movie. Not to mention, many reports claim that it has become one of the top films of 2018 in the whole world. Thanks to its fans and viewers, a sequel would not be that possible if it weren’t for their support.
Per Seventeen’s assertions, The Kissing Booth 2 might arrive in 2020. And this is in consideration to that fact that the second book in the novel series will be available in Spring of the same year. So, it is quite fitting to assume that the film will also arrive during or after the book’s arrival.
