Is Monster Musume season 2 ever getting released? This has been the question by fans for more than three years. The Japanese animated series released its final season 1 episode in September, and there's still no word on the follow-up.
According to TV Season Spoilers, plans to produce Monster Musume season 2 was delayed as the creator, Okayado, struggled with a health issue. Okayado had to stop working on the manga, which essentially also affected the animated series as it uses the published books as its source materials.
But since announcing his return to work following his health hiatus, Okayado has still not confirmed if he's working on Monster Musume season 2. Rumors say that the animated show is back in production, but Lerche Studio has not confirmed this in official statements. A quick look at the studio's current slate of shows in the works suggests that Monster Musume season 2 isn't in the pipeline.
Could the series just be delayed or has it been officially canceled? The studio has not also made any announcements about ending the series. However, the manga production is still ongoing; thus, there are new materials to explore and expound into an animated series.
Monster Musume, also known as Everyday Life with Monster Girls, is about a student named Kimihito Kurusu, whose life changes after becoming part of the "Interspecies Cultural Exchange" program. Once a major secret kept by the Japanese government, there are alien creatures, known as liminal, which have been integrated into human society.
Kimihito Kurusu's inclusion in the program is accidental as he didn't want to offend the liminal. Pretty soon, Kimihito Kurusu welcomes more of these creatures, who have been mostly abandoned and rejected, in his home until he is pushed to marry one of them.
Okayado, also known as Takemaru Inui, originally published Monster Musume in 2011. He then created a serialized publication of the story of Kimihito Kurusu, which became so successful that it was licensed to be released in the U.S. with its TV iteration.
The animated series featured the voices of Junji Majima (Kurusu Kimihito), Sora Amamiya, Ari Ozawa, Natsuki Aikawa, Mayuka Nomura, Haruka Yamazaki, Sakura Nakamura, Ai Kakuma, Yū Kobayashi, Momo Asakura, Rei Mochizuki, Yurika Kubo, and Saori Ōnishi. Tatsuya Yoshihara directed the animated series from a script adapted by Kazuyuki Fudeyasu. The show aired in Japan, as well as the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, Scandinavia, Latin America, and Southeast Asia.
