Chicago Med season 5 will premiere later next month and it comes with lots of excitement, but also a sense of drama. The upcoming installment will be the last for Dr. Connor Rhodes, which was confirmed by NBC back in spring. But, how will Colin Donnell's character end?
According to a report via TVLine, Donnell revealed the exit of Connor in Chicago Med season 5 was a "long, emotional couple of days." But he added that it was great and he's happy he was given a chance to wrap up the storyline of his character. The actor then teased that it will be "really cool for fans."
In addition, Donnell also said viewers will get closure when it comes to the question whether or not Dr. Ava Bekker (Norma Kuhling) is responsible for the death of Connor's father, which was hinted at the end of the fourth season.
It makes sense Connor has to live because of this matter, considering that Ava was the killer and he needs to start over. However, if she isn't responsible, why he has to leave, then? It might be possible he wants to leave as he has gone through so much in Chicago and it's better to go somewhere else, especially after losing his father.
Donnell also said the story of Connor will end on a "bittersweet" note, adding that everything will be cleared up about what Ava - who's also set to leave following Chicago Med season 5 premiere - did and didn't do. The good news is: the hybrid OR isn't going anywhere, even though its mastermind, Connor, will leave. Also, the new season will reportedly introduce a new character, who's an ED doctor.
Donnell has been on the medical drama since the first season, while Kuhling initially has a recurring role in season 2 before being promoted as series regular. As per Deadline, the two actors are leaving the series due to "creative reasons" related to the story evolution of the characters.
Connor and Ava had an on-and-off relationship throughout their time in the series, but following the season 4 finale, Connor was convinced Ava was behind his father's death. In the previous season, the latter turned from an assertive character to a manipulative woman who's willing to do everything to keep dating Connor.
Chicago Med season 5 will premiere on Thursday, September 25, on NBC.
