Taylor Swift is making a huge comeback after all the drama that she dealt with in the months prior. Her latest album Lover is already here, and Swifties just couldn’t get enough of it.

While fans have been debating which song they love the best from the album, critics are claiming that Taylor Swift has stolen from Hilary Duff. The Lizzie Maguire actress had been absent in the music world for over a decade to focus on her acting career, but her name is being dragged at the moment after T-Swift's Lover was released.

Taylor Swift is currently being accused of taking too much inspiration from Hilary Duff’s “Breathe In. Breathe Out.” Many believed that the 29-year-old singer-songwriter’s new song “Paper Rings” has a very similar melody to Duff’s 2015 song.

“You can't tell me that these two songs don't sound the same,” one Twitter user said. (Listen to Hilary Duff’s “Breathe In. Breathe Out.” here and Taylor Swift’s “Paper Rings” here).

This is not the first time that Taylor Swift was accused of copying Hilary Duff. When the ten-time Grammy winner released her sixth studio album Reputation, many pointed out that her lyrics “X marks the spot where we fell apart” in her “Getaway Car” song were lyrics to Hilary Duff’s “Breathe In. Breathe Out.” Yes, the same song she allegedly copied the melody from in "Paper Rings."

The alleged plagiarism became even more of a big deal when Taylor Swift herself previously revealed that her favorite Hilary Duff song is “Breathe In. Breathe Out.” When a fan asked, “Taylor, what is your favorite song from Hilary Duff’s new album? And if you haven’t listened, what are you waiting for,” T-Swift replied, ‘Breathe In, Breathe Out,’ obviously.”

It’s no secret that singers do get inspiration from other singers, and that’s completely fine. What makes it unacceptable, however, is when they don’t admit to it and claim that they are the original.

It is worth noting that some similarities, like the beat and lyrics, are sometimes coincidental and were not made with the sole purpose of plagiarizing someone else. However, there are artists out there who just downright copy from others and pretend that they did it themselves.

Regarding the alleged plagiarism of Hilary Duff’s “Breathe In. Breathe Out.” Taylor Swift and her camp have yet to address these claims.
