The BMW X2 xDrive25e PHEV is allegedly seen recently on the road. The latest sighting allowed car enthusiasts to speculate on the specs and features of the next hybrid SUV from BMW. Since the unveiling of the BMW XI, the carmaker has designed the compact sports utility vehicle with a plug-in hybrid powertrain and a moniker, BMW X2 xDrive25e PHEV.

It appears that the PHEV powertrain will be further shared across the compact vehicle series of BMW. This is evidenced by the recently spotted prototype of the BMW X2 xDrive25e PHEV seen on the road. According to reports, the vehicle is undisguised, making it easier for car enthusiasts to identify it as a plug-in hybrid because of the charging port located on the left front fender.

The BMW X2 xDrive25e PHEV prototype is seen with tags read as Hybrid test vehicle located on the tailgate and also on the driver's door. Aside from these, the BMW X2 xDrive25e PHEV prototype has a strong resemblance to the regular BMW X2 model. The prototype also has fog lights that could pass real fog lights. But, a closer look reveals that those are simply stickers.

According to a report, it is possible that the BMW X2 xDrive25e PHEV will have an LED strip that will replace the usual round fog lights. In terms of powertrain, the report claims that it will have the same powertrain as the 2020 BMW X1 xDrive25e PHEV. Having said that, it will feature a 125 PS turbocharged gasoline engine on the front axle and a 95 PS electric motor on the rear axle for a 20 PS 0r 217 HP system power.

This setup will allow the BMW X2 xDrive25e PHEV to offer all-wheel-drive capability as long as both power sources are effectively working together. The power of this vehicle is sent to the front wheels under normal working conditions. As a part of its powertrain, the BMW X2 xDrive25e PHEV will have a 9.7 kWh battery that will deliver an EV driving range of over 31 miles or 50 kilometers.

BMW earlier announced that it will add ten more new electrified models by 2020 and most likely the BMW X2 xDrive25e PHEV is one of them. The upcoming vehicle might be shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week and might be launched anytime soon. Most probably, the BMW X2 xDrive25e PHEV will reach car dealers on March 2020.
