A new patent application was recently discovered revealing that the 2021 Ford Bronco could have removable doors. This is the third time that we have seen concrete evidence that the upcoming model will be a truly off the road beast. Ford's most recent patent application is about its airbag systems and how these are associated with detachable doors or probably a tubular structure for the door.
The Ford patent application was first uncovered by AutoGuide and was reported recently. It reveals the different ways the automaker has considered including airbags for a vehicle without doors. As shown in the patent application filed to the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Ford submitted the patent application for the alleged 2021 Ford Bronco last February 2018 before it was published on August 22, 2019.
The 2021 Ford Bronco patent application suggests several ways for airbags to function with a vehicle that has tubular or removable doors. For situations where the doors are completely removed from the vehicle, the application explains a telescopic device that releases when necessary to offer crash protection. Additionally, there is an inflatable device secured to every segment to offer a buffer.
The tubular door structure on the 2021 Ford Bronco patent application, on the other hand, refers to a route where high-pressure gas will travel to fill the airbag. There are different holes in the structure of the tubular door that allows the gas to arrive at its designed destination. The airbag deploys in the event of a crash to provide protection when the doors are not equipped.
More evidence to suggest the @Ford #Bronco will get removable doors. https://t.co/Jv0mBu9q2n — MOTOR1 (@Motor1com) August 26, 2019
Last March, a Ford patent application surfaced online and revealed details about removable doors. The patent application did not have any specific vehicle name but the sketches in the application were somehow reminiscent of the Ford Blanco that was gone since 1996. Rumors have it that the return of the 2021 Ford Bronco might introduce a detachable door feature and considering that it was designed to compete against the Jeep Wrangler, there is solid evidence that the rumors could be true.

Interestingly, before it was even rumored, Ford has already revealed the 2021 Ford Bronco during its dealer meeting where it was earlier confirmed that the vehicle will have removable doors. Like other leaks, take this new 2021 Ford Bronco patent application with a barrel of salt and with the utmost skepticism. And, until Ford has confirmed these details, the information from the patent application can still change in the final design of the upcoming product.
