Has Absentia season 3 been renewed? The psychological drama starring Stana Katic has been in the middle of production in Bulgaria for a while now, but there is still no official confirmation of the renewal from the studio.
In July, Deadline reported that Absentia season 3 was in near renewal with the streaming platform Amazon. Actress Stana Katic (as Emily) also posted a photo where she's hanging out in the writers' room during the pre-production phase.
The lack of announcement regarding Absentia season 3 is hardly surprising though, per Amazon Adviser. The studio also did not confirm the second season until the show was ready to be released last June. Hence, it's likely that viewers will get an official teaser or release date by mid-2020, the speculated release of Absentia season 3.
Meanwhile, besides the upcoming installment, there's another exciting thing happening for the show. A new face is joining the series, and he's none other than Ross O' Hennessy.
O'Hennesy's casting in Absentia season 3 was revealed by his talent agency, the International Arts Management. He set to play the role of Macleod, but it's still unclear if he's a good character or one of the evil guys.
The actor might be more familiar to fans of Game of Thrones, where he appeared as Lord of Bones. O' Hennesy also appeared in Da Vinci's Demons and The Bastard Executioner.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Digital Spy, Katic said that a lot of the mysteries surrounding what happened to Emily were answered in the episodes that have been released. Absentia season 3, therefore, could delve deeper into Emily's past following the revelation that she was part of an experiment about post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The new installment might also be focusing on supporting characters about their impact or effect on Emily.
"Season one in so many ways was about us as an audience, and whether we could trust Emily," the actress relayed. "Season two is more about 'Can Emily trust herself?', so we experience her psychological journey much more intimately in the second season."
Absentia follows the story of an FBI agent who escaped six-year captivity with no memory of how she was abducted. From the minds of Gaia Violo and Matt Cirulnick, the show was developed for Sony and AXN, and established a strong following in the European regions. Amazon releases the series in the U.S. and North America.
