Liam Hemsworth was, allegedly, trying to save his marriage to Miley Cyrus when the Disney alum announced their split to the world all of a sudden. Reports indicated that the actor found out on social media that he and Miley will no longer live as a couple.

Speculations have been coming out that Cyrus has blindsided her husband about her plan to make an announcement about their separation. Apparently, Hemsworth is in Australia when Cyrus' camp broke the news about the split on August 10.

A Page Six source claimed that The Hunger Games actor wasn't ready to announce their separation. Additionally, he has no idea that Cyrus will be making an announcement at the time. However, another source close to Cyrus said Hemsworth wasn't actually "taken by surprise" by the announcement, but did not deny that the actor found it out on social media.

It was reported that Hemsworth acknowledged that his marriage is crumbling, but he is still trying to save it. The statement from Cyrus' representative stressed that Liam and Miley have agreed to separate. But, the statement was followed by photos of the singer in Italy kissing Kaitlyn Carter.

Days after split announcement, Hemsworth released his statement in which he admitted the split. On August 21, the actor officially filed for divorce from the Wrecking Ball singer, citing "irreconcilable differences." There were reports that it was the Hemsworth's family who urged the actor to move ahead with the divorce as they were "freaked out" by Miley's new relationship.

This made many to speculate that Cyrus could have cheated on Hemsworth with Carter. However, Miley already made it clear that it was not the case. In a lengthy statement that she posted on Twitter, Cyrus stressed that she did not cheat on her husband.

Then, Cyrus dropped her new song "Slide Away" on August 16. Speculations have been circulating that Miley threw shade on her ex-husband in her latest song. The "Slide Away" lyrics suggested it is about a breakup and the other person in the relationship has changed, which affects the marriage.

"I want my house in the hills, don't want the whiskey and pills / Move on we're not 17 / I'm not who I used to be, you say that everything changed, you're right we're grown now," The Voice judge sings on the track.

Miley and Liam first met at the set of The Last Song movie. The two began their on-and-off relationship in 2009. They were first engaged in May 2012, but broke up in September 2013. They rekindled their relationship in March 2016 and, eventually, got married in a private ceremony in December 2018.
