Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi is reportedly toying with the idea of jumping from La Liga to the Premier League, meaning he's open to transfer to another team. One of the reasons for the desire to change is to seek further glory, but unconfirmed reports indicate the Argentine legend disapproves of recent decisions made by Barca.
The general atmosphere, in fact, in Barcelona, seems restive. The club is not performing as expected, and teammates are not getting along too well. This is true in the case of Messi, who if reports are to be believed remains uncomfortable with the summer acquisition made by Barcelona.
Barca luring away Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid and signing up did not sit well with Messi, according to Fadeaway World.
"Messi is not at all happy with Griezmann's presence in the team," the report said, adding the Frenchman is getting the blame for Barcelona's poor La Liga start. The Catalan giants have so far played six games and only won two.
In a way, Messi puts part of the blame on the former Atletico star as the same report hinted that the two players "struggle to develop an effective connection on the pitch."
It was suggested too that Messi felt Griezmann was holding back. There were games where the latter was short on initiatives, or he was unable to follow through on attacks. Messi appeared to be convinced that Griezmann was partly responsible for Barca' recent losses, and the former wants the Frenchman out.
The two forwards while playing for the same team are not in speaking terms, which is unsurprising at all. Per the same report, Messi had thumbed down the addition of Griezmann to Barcelona as the Argentine favored re-signing the Brazilian Neymar, who found his way to the Paris Saint-Germain.
It also looked like the feud with Griezmann, and possibly disenchantment with Barca is pushing Messi to effect major changes to his career. And a likely shift that the player will go for is a move from a La Liga club to the Premier League.
That would mean a change of team from Barcelona to Manchester City, Fox Sports reported, adding Messi's decision will depend on Barca's performance at the UEFA Champion's League.
It can be assumed that Messi is itching to get out of Barcelona no thanks to Griezmann's presence, but a move has more to do on Ballon d'Or, an honor that Messi has already won five times.
The Fox report said Messi is gunning for a sixth to overtake rival Cristiano Ronaldo, and the former is convinced his chance of capturing the award is higher with a different team.
