The Last Kingdom season 4 is officially happening, and there are a lot of things to expect when the new installment arrives. For instance, the fourth season will be introducing a new character, and the twist here is that he's not part of Bernard Cornwell's Saxon Stories. So, who is this new character?

Hungarian actor Mate Haumann will be one among the new faces in The Last Kingdom season 4, and he'll be portraying the role of Cenric. While the character isn't from the novels which the series is based, it's possible the new face is a mixture of different people.

Based on his hairstyle, Cenric is probably a man of Wessex or Mercia. His name is also Anglo-Saxon -- derived from the Old English words: "cene," which means "bold" and "ric," which means "power." Thus, Haumann's character isn't likely just on the sidelines; he might be playing an essential role in the new season.

It's also yet to be revealed if Cenric will be an ally or a foe of Uthred, though the latter tends to fight the Saxons than the Danes. Some also speculated Cenric would be allied with Elfric, Unthred's uncle, who was last seen in the second season.

Elfric is currently holding Uthred's rightful home, Bebbanburg. And the synopsis from Netflix hinted that The Last Kingdom season 4 might be returning to Bebbanburg, so Cenric's role could be some sort of captain of the guard to Elfric.

In another report, even though the series is bloody and brutal, cast members are enjoying their moments and having fun behind-the-scenes. The official Instagram page of the series reported a photo from Mark Rowley (Finan), showing the actor and two co-stars doing a funny pose near the trailers.

Elizabeth Butterworth, who plays the role of Aelswith, also shared some behind-the-scenes photos from the production set of The Last Kingdom season 4. In one of the photos she posted, Butterworth was with Timothy Innes, who plays King Edward.

Butterworth also shared a photo of her riding a horse while a few armors can be seen in the background. Will she lead her troops in battle when the new season arrives? In another photo she shared, the actress teased she will have a new look in the latest installment.

The official release date of The Last Kingdom season 4 is yet to be revealed. But in a previous post via Instagram, the series asked fans to "join Uthred next year," hinting that the new season is set for a 2020 release.
