Does Poldark season 6 still have a chance of returning? The period drama series has finished its run in the U.K. last August, but it just premiered in the U.S. this October.
Prior to the season premiere, fans have been aware that Poldark season 5 will be its final run with Aidan Turner as the hero Ross Poldark. However, there's still more drama to be told from the rest of the characters' point of view.
In September 2018, BBC announced that Poldark season 5 will close the story of the titular character based on the novels by Winston Graham. However, the book still has more stories covering the next generation of the Poldark family.
The final moments of Poldark season 5 saw Ross aboard a ship heading to France while Demeza Poldark (played by Eleanor Tomlinson) looked on with sadness in her eyes. Ross promised to her that he will return. Thus, confusing the fans on whether this was a statement he directed at Delmeza or the viewers.
Turner confirmed after the airing of Poldark season 5 that it was indeed the last outing for his character. In fact, he took home souvenirs from the set to remember his work by, such as the benches, the kitchen table, and Poldark's hat, per an interview with Sunday Times.
This doesn't mean, however, that Turner is saying goodbye to his character for good. In the same interview, he expressed that he's still very much open to revisiting his character and the series after 15 years.
In the original book source, Ross Poldark aged as the storylines went on for 12 books. Turner said that he'd love to do the role again when he's old and grey naturally. He would rather do this again without makeup or special effects.
Poldark centers on the story of Captain Ross Vennor Poldark, a 1700s war hero. After serving for three years, he returns home to Cornwall to find that his father has died and that the family land has been left with a huge debt.
The series follows Poldark as he settles into Cornwall, rebuilds the estate, and finds love and friendship in a community that is also changing through the times. The story closes at the turn of the century in 1801.
