Carnival Row season 2, which stars Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne, will go through major changes in production. Creator Travis Beacham and showrunner Marc Guggenheim, recently, dropped out of the series while executive producer Erik Oleson is stepping up as the new showrunner.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Beacham left the Amazon fantasy drama because of creative differences. Guggenheim, on the other hand, gave up on his showrunning duties since he is working on The CW's massive Arrow-verse crossover episodes, "Crisis on Infinite Earths."

Also leaving Carnival Row season 2 is its original director Paul McGuigan; in his place on the director's chair is Jon Amiel.

According to Science Fiction, production for Carnival Row season 2 has been underway in Prague. Bloom and Delavigne will reprise their roles as faerie lovers Philo and Vignette amid a cyberpunk and fantasy backdrop.

Before leaving the series, Guggenheim said that Philo, a half-blood, will have to learn to embrace his true nature a half-human and a half-fae. On top of this, because Philo also gave up on his investigator badge, Carnival Row season 2 will be more challenging for him as the cloak of authority will no longer protect him.

Guggenheim also teased that Katy Perry, who is Bloom's girlfriend in real life, might drop in on Carnival Row season 2 for a cameo. However, it's unclear if this plan will push through since Guggenheim is no longer heading the series. Both Bloom and Delevigne also serve as executive producers in the second season.

Carnival Row is based on a story that Beachum wrote as a screenplay over 17 years ago. However, much of the show's themes are still relevant today as it also deals with immigration issues though the show is set in a mythical world where different creatures exist with humans.

In season 1, Carnival Row featured Bloom's character as a detective following up on murders seemingly committed by a serial killer. Meanwhile, his old love, the rebel faerie played by Delevigne, resurfaces in his life after he disappeared on her several years ago.

Amazon has not announced the release date for Carnival Row season 2. However, it is speculated to be on the streaming platform sometime in the summer or fall of 2020 if production schedules are not interrupted.
