Rising from the humble boundaries of Legazpi City in the Philippines, lies the world's one of the most active volcanoes, the Mt. Mayon Volcano. With its breath-taking beauty, no one can resist its charm even with how dangerous it can sometimes be. Tourists still come and go and can't help but be captivated by how gorgeous this beautiful disaster is.

The Mayon Volcano's first-ever recorded eruption happened in 1616 and since then has already exploded 58 times, as reported by National Geographic. The most violent eruption happened in 1814, where more than 1200 people were killed leaving a lof of towns devastated.

What most people don't know about the Mayon Volcano is the legend that creeps in its every crater, shared from generation to generation. The plot involves two lovers in a tragic love story, which, according to the folklore, became the reason of Mayon's existence.

According to the legend, there was a maiden, whose name is Magayon (Beauty). She was the daughter of the tribe's chief named Makusog (Strong/Strength). This maiden's beauty made all the tribe's men and those who came from far be attracted to her.

One of those men who fell in love with her beauty is Pagtuga (Eruptions). Pagtuga is a young warrior and also the head chief of Iraga. He tried to make Magayon fell in love with him by giving her a lot of things. His gifts include all kinds of treasures and gems such as gold and jewels.

Unfortunately, no matter how much he tried, Magayon's eyes are only set on one person, Panganoron (Sky/Heavens), the person who rescued her from an unfortunate accident. Eventually, when the young lad asked for Magayon's hand from her Father, Makusog agreed. Furious, Pagtuga kidnapped Makusog and threatened him, which pushed Magayon to agree to marry him instead.

During the wedding, Panganoron went to the event uninvited and decided to kill Pagtuga to stop the wedding. He was victorious for his plans and was able to kill the lad. Unfortunately, Magayon was struck by a poisoned arrow during the commotion. And when he was still grieving, a soldier of Pagtuga stabbed him with a "bolo."

After the incident, the brokenhearted Makusog decides to bury the lovers Panganoron and Magayon together. Years past, residents noticed how their graveyards rise higher, and higher-this eventually became Mayon Volcano.

With this legend, whenever the volcano is about to erupt, residents believe that Magayon is troubled by Pagtuga. On the other hand, whenever the volcano is calm, Panganoron is embracing the maiden, as shared by ABS-CBN News.

The Mayon Volcano is indeed such a lovely creation. Its wonders undeniably makes this gem more precious. Are you interested in visiting this landmark?
