Apple is on a crazy release schedule so it could deliver the features and bug fixes it promised to its users. The Cupertino-based tech giant released the iOS 13.2 and iPadOS 13.2. Now, it rolls out the macOS Catalina 10.15.1, the tvOS 13.2, and the watchOS 6.1.
The macOS Catalina 10.15.1 is the first update to the macOS Catalina operating system that was initially released this month. The latest macOS build is available on the Mac App Store for free. Users are advised to make sure that they use the Update feature in the System Preferences app, and available to anyone with a compatible Mac.
During its first release, the macOS Catalina 10.15 introduced several features and changes. It replaced iTunes with new Music, TV, and Podcasts apps. The Reminders app also received a major update. Additionally, it introduced a new screen mirroring feature from Mac to iPad known as Sidecar along with the addition of Apple Arcade gaming subscription.
The latest macOS 10.15.1 has a significant number of updates, including a new set of emoji characters that were also introduced in iOS 13.2 earlier this week. It also adds support for the Airpods Pro and introduces Siri privacy controls to the Mac to enable users to choose not to share Siri recordings with Apple. The latest update also adds support for HomeKit Secure Video and AirPlay 2-activated speakers in automation and scenes in the Home app.
Aside from these, the macOS Catalina 10.15.1 also adds bug fixes that previously caused contacts to launch the last contact opened instead of the contact list. Another fix included in the latest update is the solution for the issue that causes problems in the Music app when showing the playlists within folders and recently added songs in the Song list. The latest macOS update also fixes the issue that prevented downloaded titles from being seen in the Downloads folder in the TV app.
Several Photos features are also restored with the macOS Catalina 10.15.1. This includes viewing file names in the All Photos view as well as filtering by videos, photos, favorites, keywords, and edited in the Days view. Additionally, the latest mac update adds a two-finger swipe gesture for navigating back in the News app.
Users still on macOS Mojave 10.14 or earlier version, it is recommended to hold off upgrading to macOS Catalina 10.15.1 at the moment. It is better to wait and see some indication that Apple has already fixed the issue with Mail.
