BLACKPINK just made history by becoming the first Kpop group to reach one billion views on YouTube with its DDU DU DDU DU MV.
According to a report by Newsweek, BLACKPINK became the first idol group to reach 1 billion views and the second Kpop act to reach the milestone after PSY.
It can be recalled that PSY was the first Korean solo artist to reach the milestone with his global hit song Gangnam Style, which now has close to 4 billion views.
BLACKPINK's DDU DU DDU DU was originally uploaded on June 15, 2018, which meant Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo, and Rose achieved 1 billion views in just one year, and less than five months.
Breaking YouTube records was nothing new to members of BLACKPINK. It can be recalled that early this year, Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo and Rose proved their supremacy on the platform for charting the biggest music video debut.
When Kill this Love premiered on the streaming platform, BLINKS streamed the MV 56.7 million times within 24 hours, beating Ariana Grande's record of 55.4 million views for Thank You, Next, Forbes reported. Unfortunately, this record was broken by BTS for its Boy with Luv collaboration with Halsey.
Still, BLINKs were triumphant in reaching the one billion mark for DDU DU DDU DU this year. It was one of the missions of the fandom to celebrate the third year of BLACKPINK's debut. As a result of their success, fans celebrated the milestone with hashtags like #OneBillionWithBLACKPINK, and #HITUWITHTHAT1B.
The YouTube record caps 2019 as a landmark year for BLACKPINK. Because of the success of the Your Area World Tour, the group earned the attention of international music awards.
It can be recalled that BLACKPINK was the sole female act nominated for the Billboard Music Awards for Best Kpop Group alongside male idol groups like BTS, EXO, TXT, MONSTA X. The group was also nominated for the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards as Favorite Global Superstar.
BLACKPINK also received nominations from MTV Video Music Awards for the Best Kpop and Best Group categories.
2019 was also a year of victories for BLACKPINK as members Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo and Rose won Choice Single at the Teen Choice Awards 2019 for their song DDU DU DDU DU. They also won Best Dance Video for DDU DU DDU DU at MTV VMA Japan and Best Music at the Shorty Awards. They also emerged victorious in this year's People's Choice Awards when they bagged Best Group, Best Music Video and Best Concert Tour of 2019.
BLACKPINK also dominated with four wins at Brazil's Breaktudo Music Awards as the group took home the prize for International Music Video of the Year, Boom Video of The Year, Best Collaboration and Best Kpop Female Group, All Kpop reported.
As part of its international activities, BLACKPINK made its debut at this year's Coachella Music Festival where the members were well received by the audience.
Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo and Rose's Your Area World Tour also made it to the list of bestselling US concerts this year and entered the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200 charts with the hit song, Kill This Love.
