A new iOS app that was launched recently assures users that it will detect if their iPhone has been discretely hacked. The iVerify app developed by the security firm Trail of Bits features a periodic scan of iPhones for possible security anomalies that can tell whether it has been tampered with. Should the app detect any irregularity it will tell the owner how to secure the device.
The new iVerify iOS app is retailed for $4.99 and aims to address a gap in iOS security. In the past, iPhone users have no tool to use to detect if their iPhones are hacked. Apple locked down al access to the internal process of the iOS making it extremely hard for security researchers to evaluate software bugs, Motherboard states. It was only three months ago when the Cupertino-based tech giant finally issued special developer iPhones to chosen experts to discover flaws.
Apple also blocks antivirus products on the Apple App Store. The Cupertino-based tech giant has an iron-clad rule about an app scanning another. Additionally, all third-party programs are required to be sandboxed from one another, which effectively bans antivirus scanning on iPhones and other iOS devices.
But, the iVerify app is not an antivirus program according to its developer. The app tries to detect the side effects that exploited iPhone vulnerabilities generate. Installing this new app on your iPhone could help you protect it from hackers and attackers.
Tech enthusiasts, however, are curious about what iVerify can do about software vulnerabilities that Apple is not aware of or Apple could not fix. This risk was highlighted earlier this year when the search engine giant uncovered that attackers and hackers have been using iOS vulnerabilities that are previously unknown to spy on users.
With the iVerify app, iPhone users can rest on the fact that such attacks will be prevented. To be able to detect the side effects of iOS vulnerabilities, the developer learned all public iPhone jailbreaks available in the market in the past. This includes exploiting old vulnerabilities of the iPhone to get root access to iOS, which can give hackers the opportunity to install third-party apps including malware, on the device.
Additionally, the iVerify app will scan the device from a set of indicators ranging between 30 and 300. According to Trail of Bits CEO Dan Guido, the iVerify app is a security multitool and comes with a whole suite of features. This includes instructional guides that users can follow to keep their iPhones' activities secure and private.
