Blizzard finally unveiled the much awaited and heavily speculated title "Overwatch 2" at this year's BlizzCon. During the event, the game developer revealed that the upcoming game will have a PvE story mode, a new character(s), and many more. While we still do not know the exact release date of the upcoming game and how long will it take to beat the game, Game Director Jeff Kaplan might have already given away the game's length.
In a recent interview with Washington Post, Kaplan shared that "Overwatch 2" will have a complete story experience just like any other AAA blockbuster title. The game director added that the game will have a significant length. It is worth noting that the "Overwatch 2" campaign might be expanded post-launch in a manner unique from what Blizzard has done with the "Overwatch" PvP experience.
Many gamers, despite the long list of offerings coming with "Overwatch 2" including new maps and game modes among others, still feel that it should be launched as an expansion of the current "Overwatch" game. But, considering Kaplan's recent statement that the game will be of considerable length, it might, in a way, appease disgruntled fans. Kaplan said during the interview that he plays a lot of video games and he could not think of a single expansion or DLC of the same magnitude as the upcoming "Overwatch 2."
The current "Overwatch" game has consigned its lore to animated shorts, comics, and other media besides the game itself which could justify the PvE mode in "Overwatch 2." The PvP will be compatible with the first game and will prevent the community from getting divided. But, the upcoming game will have its own exclusive content aside from the PvE campaign.
We have learned from earlier announcements that "Overwatch 2" will have special co-op Hero Missions specially designed with replayability to allow players to level up their heroes and buy new abilities. Whether the new content of the upcoming game is enough to give justice to the purchase of those who already own the current game is definitely dependent on the individual consumer. Surely, Blizzard will make sure that the game will have enough content to satisfy gamers and attract those who have not yet purchased the first game.
The highly awaited game, "Overwatch 2" is currently in development. It is anticipated to release on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. So far, there are speculations that the game might release on next generation gaming console but Blizzard has yet to confirm or deny this.
