Lucas Torreira sent a message to Unai Emery on his position as a midfielder in Arsenal. The Uruguayan footballer showcased his talent during Uruguay national team's friendly match against Argentina last Monday. The 23 years old midfielder has been making headlines recently about his plan of leaving Arsenal.

Arsenal fans have been frustrated about Lucas Torreira this season since Unai Emery tried using him to play on a more advanced role on various occasions with little to zero success. Surprisingly, despite obvious indications that Torreira is struggling in his cameo roles, it appears that the Arsenal coach has no plans of changing his approach for the Uruguayan footballer. Emery's judgment has left many pundits and fans bewildered considering that Lucas Torreira moved to Arsenal from Sampdoria as a defensive midfielder.

The 23 years old midfielder was earlier seen as the answer to the issues that former Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger failed to address when he was still the head coach of the Gunners. However, it appears that Lucas Torreira's defensive skill does not seem enough to persuade Unai Emery and this term, the Uruguayan midfielder was only able to play in four out of 12 Arsenal matches. But, Torriera proved his worth and reinforced his case with an impressive performance during the recent match between Uruguay and Argentina in Israel.

Lucas Torreira was assigned to play as Uruguay's midfield three screened his defense with energy and snapped into tackles against Lionel Messi. Although he lacks more playing time this season, the 23 years old midfielder did not show any signs of rustiness and his positional consciousness usually places him in the best place to prevent attacks coming from Argentina, Metro reported. Additionally, his simple distribution is what Uruguay exactly needed to develop its own moves going forward.

A week ago, Lucas Torreira's agent Pablo Bentancur sent a warning to Arsenal noting that Unai Emery's decision to use the Uruguayan footballer in more advanced roles is not working. Torreira is happy at the Emirates although the change in role has not pleased him, Bencantour disclosed. Rumors have it that Torreira has requested the Arsenal management to listen to offers for him from other clubs, indicating that he would like to move to other teams if the offer is right.

Earlier this month, Arsenal stripped Granit Xhaka of his captaincy and several reports claimed that the former Arsenal captain is considering moving to other clubs in the upcoming January transfer window. With Lucas Torreira's latest performance at Uruguay, Unai Emery might be tempted to throw away his experiment and assign the midfielder the role best suited for his skills and abilities.
