Portuguese superstar and Portugal national team captain Cristiano Ronaldo slammed Luxembourg for its pitch. The 34 years old Balloon D'or awardee called it "potato field" after Portugal's 2-0 win over Luxemburg last Sunday in the UEFA Euro 2020 Qualifiers. It can be recalled that Luxemburg fans chanted 'Messi, Messi, Messi' during the team's match against Portugal where Ronaldo was playing.
Cristiano Ronaldo was aiming to achieve another career milestone of scoring 100 international goals under Portugal. However, as the final whistle was blown, the Talisman only made one goal, which makes him one goal short from his target. But, his contribution was enough to let the Portugal national team get into the European Champions 2020 qualifier.
Speaking after the match, the 34 years old football superstar said that his poor performance in the field was because of the rugged pitch prepared by Luxemburg's groundsmen, Fox Sports reported. Ronaldo was quoted saying that it was tough to play on Luxemburg's pitches because it is a potato field. The Talisman also told reporters during the interview how other teams of their level are supposed to play on the kind of pitches that Luxemburg has.
Cristiano Ronaldo also admitted that it was not a good performance but the team did its job. He added that he is looking forward to his fifth European Championship. The Juventus superstar also shared that he is not 100 percent fit these past few weeks.
He admitted that Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri was correct when he pulled him off the field and had him substituted during the 55th minute of the Juventus' game against AC Milan. I have been playing with limitations in the last three weeks, Ronaldo revealed. However, he said that there was no controversy and added that it was the media who created it.
Ronaldo also shared that he tried his best to help Juventus and no player like to be substituted, however, he said that he understood his coach's decision because he was not in a good shape. Meanwhile, Lionel Messi assisted and scored a goal in Argentina's 2-2 draw against Uruguay. Messi has shown a stellar performance playing for his country in both of the international friendly matches against Uruguay and Brazil.
And, his fans do not want to miss this chance to troll Cristiano Ronaldo, his rival. When Lionel Messi scored an injury-time equalizer, fans took to Twitter to troll the Portuguese superstar.
Whoa,
Cristiano Ronaldo subbed off at 54’,
leaves the pitch only giving this look to Sarri,
then says something in Portuguese towards the bench,
and run straight into locker room! pic.twitter.com/9jTxefXaa7 — Tancredi Palmeri (@tancredipalmeri) November 10, 2019
