Premier League giant Tottenham Hotspur sacked Mauricio Pochettino after almost six years of serving as the club's head coach. The 47 years old Argentine professional football manager as exiled from Spurs following a disastrous start to the 2019-2020 season, which saw them drop down to the 14th place on the league table after 12 games. Daniel Levy announced that Pochettino's post would be filled in by former Chelsea and Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho.
The 56 years old Portuguese manager is one of the biggest names in football and recently promised to bring the club back of the top of the list in the league table. Tuttomercato reveals that he received a significant pay cut to return to management. The report claims that the Portuguese football pundit initially asked for €20 million per season, the same amount he earned when he was the head coach at Manchester United.
However, Mourinho reportedly took a whopping €5 million cut per season and will now get €15 million per season pay. The Portuguese manager signed a deal with the Hotspur that is meant to keep him until the end of the 2022-2023 season, reports Forbes. Mourinho's salary at Tottenham makes him the second-highest earner in the Premier League tailing behind Pep Guardiola of Manchester City, who earns £20.7 million per annum.
Daily Mail reports that Jose Mourinho will be on a £15million per year contract, which twice the amount Mauricio Pochettino earned at Tottenham. Jurgen Klopp, the manager of the current Premier League leader Liverpool, is reportedly receiving a salary of around £7.5 million per year. TalkSPORT reports that Jose Mourinho's salary is mainly due to his agent Pini Zahavi.
