Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's decision not to join the royal family for Christmas this year might have gotten the blessing of Queen Elizabeth herself. But singer and songwriter Sir Rod Stewart expressed his disappointment over the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's choice to spend the holiday in the United States instead of Sandringham.

In an interview with Daily Mail, Stewart said that Prince Harry and Meghan have plenty of time to have Christmases elsewhere other than with Queen Elizabeth. Since the monarch is 93, Stewart said that if he were Prince Harry, he would accept Her Majesty's Christmas invitation because she probably has not much time left in this world.

Stewart said that he is a monarchist who thinks that Queen Elizabeth is a wonderful person. He also revealed that he knows Prince Charles quite well and thinks he's a fun person to be around.

But it's not just Stewart who believes Prince Harry and Meghan were wrong to skip Christmas with the Queen and the royal family in Sandringham. Presenter Piers Morgan, who is one of the most vocal critics of Meghan Markle, said that their move was "clearly a snub to the Queen."

Morgan also said that the Prince Harry and Meghan could have used the holidays to "mend broken fences" with Prince William and Kate, especially with their rumored rift. Instead, by choosing to spend Christmas in the United States, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex seem to be isolating themselves from the royal family further.

Meanwhile, a source close to Prince William reportedly revealed that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge feel both relieved and strange about Prince Harry's absence this Christmas. Apparently, Prince Harry skipped a holiday with the royal family only once in his life -- while he was stationed as a soldier in Afghanistan in 2012, per FOX News.

But Prince Harry and Meghan are said to be eager to celebrate the very first Christmas of their son, Archie Harrison, regardless of where they are. This might begin a new tradition where the Sussexes plan to split their holidays between London and Los Angeles, where Meghan's mom Doria Ragland lives.

Royal experts said that one other possible reason why Prince Harry and Meghan decided to pass on Sandringham this year is that Christmases with the Queen can be quite stressful and very formal. With a baby to look after, perhaps the Sussexes only want something a bit informal and low-key for the holidays, thus the choice to fly to America.
