More than a year after the debut of Pocophone F1, which proved a successful gaming phone effort from Xiaomi, a vague hint was provided by the device's manufacturer, somehow indicating the popular handset could be upgraded by next year. The possibility now exists that Android fans will soon get a taste of the Poco F2.
Alvin Tse, Xiaomi's global head for the sub-brand, himself, has dropped the exciting news via Twitter, wherein he teased that there will be an update of the Poco brand next year, which is but a few weeks from now.
"You will hear more from POCO in 2020," the executive tweeted on December 21, and as reported by GSM Arena.
Admittedly, Tse all but provided a glimmer of hope for fans, but surely his few words were enough to fire up the speculations that work could be underway for a new dose of Poco and that Xiaomi intends to give the second installment of the line in the coming months. Unsurprisingly, the thought of seeing a Pocophone F2 came to mind.
Prior to this latest info from Tse, Poco fans have assumed that version two of the device will be a repurpose build of the Redmi K20 Pro and that the Indian market will be the initial destination of the handset.
But nothing had happened to that effect, and all that Poco fans can do is to wait for Xiaomi's next move.
The Pocophone F1 quickly gained a huge following for its seemingly perfect packaging. The device boasted of flagship-level specifications when it first hit the market in August 2018. The power under the hood is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845, which was enough to compete with similar devices.
However, the Poco F1's strongest selling point is its price tag, which ranged between $300 and $400 in markets where the handset was shipped. It was an instant hit, and Android fans, specifically those deep in mobile gaming, clamored for a follow-up.
Should this happen, NDTV said the Poco F2 will be a major improvement from its predecessor.
"The phone is expected to sport a notch-less display and have a pop-up selfie camera instead. It is seen to sport an in-display fingerprint scanner and a triple camera setup at the back. The transparent case reveals that the back panel design will sport flame-like gradient pattern," the report suggested.
And in order to keep the pricing competitive, Xiaomi will likely power the Pocophone F2 with Snapdragon 855+, as doing so will allow the device maker to make the upcoming installment as popular as the first offering.
