A new scoop from a popular Japanese site Macotakara, popular for revealing that Apple would remove the headphone jack on iPhone 7, got his hands on what seems to be the first 3D printed mockup of the iPhone 12 or the 2020 iPhone. Based on the leak, it seems that the Cupertino company is sticking with the core design of the iPhone X. The leak not only reveals the external design of the iPhone 12 but also hints on some of its unexpected features.

The resemblance of the iPhone 12 with the iPhone X is not only limited to the external design. It turns out even the dimensions barely changed. Macotakara says it is the 6.5-inch iPhone 12 model; however, the dimensions are virtually identical. The iPhone 12 Pro Max, based on the mockup has a 159mm x 78mm x 7.1 mm dimension while the iPhone 11 Pro Max has a 158mm x 77.8mm x 7.1 mm dimension.

It is worth mentioning that the mockup of the alleged iPhone 12 has a reduced thickness compared to its predecessor. Apple decided to increase the thickness of the current generation iPhone series to accommodate the larger battery pack, says Forbes. It is interesting that the mockup shows a thin iPhone, something, which the Cupertino company has not yet done on its previous releases except in iPhone 6.

If you look closer at the alleged iPhone 12 mockup, you will notice that it does not have the curves but more angled edges similar to that found in iPhone 4. Earlier reports talked about this potential change in the upcoming flagship smartphone series from Apple. A couple of other changes are also noticeable in the alleged iPhone 12 mockup. The volume and mute switches are about half the size of each button, reports Macotakara. The SIM slot appears to have lowered by one slot, the site adds. The white finish could be just the output color from the 3D printer to make the design easier to see.

Furthermore, on the left side of the alleged iPhone 12 mockup seems like a connector. The shape, according to the Japanese tipster, is similar to the magnetic connector of the iPad Pro and the 12.9 iPad Pro. One theory claims that this could be the connector for the Apple Pencil and charger.

It is worth mentioning that Macotakara got this alleged iPhone 12 mockup from a source within Alibaba. It states that the mockup is just one of the many designs that the Cupertino company is currently working on at this phase.
