In the US alone, did you know that there is approximately one woman diagnosed with breast cancer every 2 minutes? Because of this rate, breast cancer is considered the most common cancer among American women at present, as reported by The National Breast Cancer Organization.

Due to the arising need, experts are trying to help women fight breast cancer with flying colors. Campaigns to raise awareness about the illness are on the rise. Breast cancer survivors' stories to inform people about what they've gone through and how they were able to become victorious with it are now shared with everyone. Experts, on the other hand, conduct studies and experiments to uncover ways to help people prevent the disease.

Though there are still several factors that can cause breast cancer that no one can do something about, such as age and gene mutations, experts say there is still something we can do especially when it comes to lifestyle-related cancer. Some of the things we have to alter are the following.

OVERWEIGHT

One of the factors that can contribute to breast cancer is being obese especially for older women and those who are already in their menopause stage. Given this reason, if you want to protect yourself from this type of cancer, experts' advice is to lose weight.

"The more fat or adipose tissue you have in your body, the more estrogen you can potentially produce," explains Taraneh Shirazian, MD, OB/GYN, who is an obstetrician and gynecologist in NYU Langone in New York City and also the person behind Mommy Matters. The expert further explains how estrogen puts every woman at risk. Shirazian added that this female sex hormone is the culprit behind uterine and breast cancers.

ADORING ALCOHOLIC DRINKS

A study published in the British Journal of Cancer shows how drinking even at least two alcoholic beverages a day can already increase the chance of having breast cancer by 1.6% as compared to those who don't drink. Experts were able to dig deep into this research after studying about 486,538 cancer cases. So, better stick to fruit juices or water for a healthier body.

NOT CONSUMING ENOUGH FRESH GREENS

Eating fresh green leafy vegetables is vital when fighting breast cancer, as revealed by Rachel Beller, MS, RD, a dietitian expert and founder of Beller Nutritional Institute. The expert recommends the best greens to consume are broccoli, cauliflower, kale, broccoli sprouts, and cabbage. What makes these foods important in combating breast cancer are the phytochemicals that can be found in it. You can incorporate these greens into your meals or eat them simply as a salad.

The number of people suffering from cancer is rising. But don't let yourself be defeated. Fight the illness through a lifestyle change.
