Social media giant Facebook may be banned in China but the company continues to operate within the country. It has formulated an advertising team in China to grow its lucrative revenues in the region. The said team was reported to develop better ad-buying tools for Chinese customers.
Facebook has established a dedicated team within its Asia-Pacific headquarters in Singapore, reported Reuters. The company targeted Chinese clients and aims to develop better ad-buying tools and grow their revenues.
The business strategy was said to be Facebook's first significant attempt at creating localized ad tools in a foreign territory. The team's purpose was established to be developing improved as features that would make the brand more competitive regionally. It was also highlighted that the move would improve the performance of its sales staff.
Facebook described the engineering team as an "Asian-first" collective that would consist of both product and 'business-integrity' sub-teams. It was announced that the coverage would go beyond China and would also cater to global advertisers.
It was also revealed that the Facebook team would enable Chinese advertisers to create legal strategies that would round Internet restrictions otherwise known as the "Great Firewall."
According to Warc, in 2018, Facebook already sold about five billion USD worth of advertising space to Chinese entities and China's government agencies. Furthermore, Facebook also has significant commercial interests in countries like India, Thailand, and Vietnam. These countries were said to observe some forms of Internet restrictions like China.
According to the head of Chinese ad agency Sterry Raggy Lau, Facebook would increase its spending in 2020 as it tackles more clients who are all in need of its services to complete for the attention of users.
It was also mentioned that Facebook would target smaller businesses in the second and third-level cities in China. However, it was highlighted that the clients who would be interested in the advertising campaigns would be informed beforehand of the restrictions present in China.
China is Facebook's biggest country for revenue, reported CNBC News. Analysts claimed that its top revenue area is the United States but company CEO and owner Mark Zuckerberg had been eyeing operations in China.
However, at present, Facebook remains a banned social platform in China. Zuckerberg's company did not pass the restrictive Internet policies in the country making the social media network inaccessible to Chinese users.
The company wrote on WeChat back in November that it is committed to becoming the best marketing platform in the Country. It also seeks to serve Chinese citizens who wish to go abroad.
