Meghan Markle is now married to Prince Harry and her ex-husband Trevor Engelson moved on with his new wife dietitian Tracey Kurland. Meghan and Trevor were trying to climb the Hollywood ladder when they began dating, and their current lives are a far cry from where they started with their careers.
When they met, Trevor Engelson was running his own production company, Underground, at the age of 25 while Meghan Markle was a struggling actress, settling for small roles in films and TV shows. Although Trevor was the more successful between the two, his “ruthless ambition” allegedly got in the way of his career.
Trevor Engelson is meant to be a part of the film industry. When he was still in high school in New York, he was already working as a production assistant on shoots. He studied at the Annenberg School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California and worked on two films after graduation before pursuing a career in producing.
“During his time in the office he studied how his bosses – the movie’s producers – worked, and he liked what he saw,” royal biographer Andrew Morton wrote. “It didn’t seem like they were working very hard and yet they made a lot of money and got the prettiest girls.”
Trevor Engelson was so interested in the whole producing thing that he approached one of the producers, Alan Riche, and told him that he wanted to do the same thing he was doing. “Alan, I want to do what you do, I want to produce,” he said.
Alan Riche told him to get an experience as an agent and then referred him to the Endeavour agency. Trevor Engelson started from the bottom and worked his way up and became an assistant to motion picture literary agent Chris Donnelly.
Things were going well for Trevor Engelson, but the royal biographer said that he overstepped his remit. He sent out uncommissioned scripts to actors and directors under the Endeavor letterhead when Chris Donnell was away on a holiday. This was a huge mistake.
But because of his undeniable perseverance, Trevor Engelson was hired by OZ Films as an assistant to Nick Osborne and Jeffrey Zaino. He reportedly said that “They needed a hustler who could bring food to the table.”
Meanwhile, Trevor Engelson and Meghan Markle started dating in 2004 and had been supporting each other with their careers. The pair eventually filed for divorce in 2013, just 18 months after they tied the knot in Jamaica.
