RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook just performed their latest single “Black Swan” for the first time on The Late Late Show With James Corden last week. Many were amazed by the choreography as it was something that BTS has not done before.
BTS “Black Swan” choreography was similar to the art film, where it featured the MN Dance Company. BTS songs are heavily influenced by hip-hop and rap music, so RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, Jungkook usually do a lot of hip-hop movements. However, the boys did a contemporary dance for their latest single.
The genius behind BTS “Black Swan” choreography is Sergio Reis, who is a Brazilian dancer and choreographer, currently living in the Netherlands. After the success of BTS live performance last week, Sergio took to Instagram to share a clip of his masterpiece and described his experience with BTS as a "dream job."
“Dream job to choreograph for one of the most successful artists in the world @bts.bighitofficial. Thank you everyone at #bighitentertainment for the trust. Thank you to my skeleton crew for pulling this together with me so quick. One for the books @latelateshow / Congrats to @bts.bighitofficial for the release of their new song “Black Swan” #bts #bighitentertainment #thelatelateshow #choreography #sergioreis,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, BTS would be the first one to admit that their group is not made out of experienced dancers. Although BTS has a “Dance Line,” which consists of J-Hope, Jimin, and Jungkook, there are two members who are clearly not as effortless as the rest.
Jin was scouted to join Big Hit Entertainment mainly because of his good looks. He was an easy pick for the group’s visual, but he had to work hard in his singing and dancing. As for RM, he was the main reason why BTS was formed. He was a popular underground rapper before becoming the leader of the group. But rapping was his specialty and not dancing.
And then there’s Suga, whose only goal was to become a producer but was “tricked” by the label to becoming an idol. Luckily, the rapper can dance.
That being said, Jin and RM worked tirelessly to improve their dancing skills. Fast forward to 2020 and BTS has won several awards for the “Best Dance” category. This just goes to show that hard work and perseverance will never fail anyone.
