Felines have very distinct behavior. Some of the things that make these creatures stand out are their friendly, active, curious, vigilant, inventive, inquisitive, smart, affectionate, and gentle personalities, as revealed by the American Veterinary Medical Association.

But no matter what personalities your cats have, there are still some things experts say cat owners should always be aware of especially when it comes to the things they should never ever do to their beloved furry balls. Here are some of those.

NEVER INVEST TOO MUCH ATTENTION

"Cat owners should not force attention on cats. Though cats enjoy human attention, they like it in smaller doses than dogs, and on their own terms", explains Doctor Wendy Hauser. Hauser is the Assistant Vice President of Crum & Forster Pet Insurance Group, and the Founder and President of Peak Veterinary Consulting.

Given this reason, it is a must that pet owners should always remember to never force a cat for a cuddle or for little smooches and hugs especially when they are not in the mood. Give them the space they deserve, that is if you want them to become happier.

NEVER BRING PLANTS INSIDE HOME IF YOU'RE UNSURE IT IS SAFE FOR THEM

Plants inside your homes can really be a good eye candy, which can also be beneficial for your health. It can help release stress and tension and furthermore can also improve the beauty of your surroundings.

Unfortunately, not all plants are safe for your felines. Some of the plants that can be toxic to your cats include autumn crocus, amaryllis, azaleas, rhododendrons, chrysanthemum, mum, daisy, castor bean, daffodils, narcissus, and cyclamen, as reported by PetMD.

NEVER GIVE YOUR CATS STRINGS OR YARN AS A TOY

Contrary to the old beliefs, strings and yarns aren't really the best toys for your cat. Experts advise owners to ditch this stuff as it can pose great health risks for your beloved pet. Jaimee Alsing, an animal nutritionist with PurringPal and former veterinary technician, explains how it can be dangerous for cats to play with such things.

According to the expert, playing with the yarn or string can be too risky for the cats as there can always be the possibility of ingestion. Once ingested, this foreign object can be knotted and scrunched inside intestines and can cause a greater problem, which can only be removed through surgery.

There are already a lot of toys available in the market nowadays for your little kitty. But not all those are safe for them. To know the best ones, consulting your vet is the best thing to do.
