Manchester United has no plans of slowing down when it comes to adding new players on their end. After the blockbuster signing of Bruno Fernandes, the Red Devils are ready to invest in another player heavily.
Although most were expecting James Maddison to be that player, it appears that United has resorted to plan B. Winger Jack Grealish will the team's summer transfer target due to a couple of reasons. One is the contract situation of the Leicester City playmaker and second is the performance of the 24-year old player's continuous improvement this season, the Mirror reported.
This development comes a bit of a surprise considering Manchester United has been closely monitoring Maddison. Likely factored in is the fact that Leicester will be in the Champions League next season while the Red Devils are in the Europa League. The belief is that the 23-year-old midfielder is likely to stay with the Foxes and sign a fresh contract.
If things hold up, Grealish should join the Red Devils this summer. This is expected to go down once his plight is settled with Aston Villa. He had a great run this season, one of the big-hitters last month. Seeing how he refused a mid-season move due to his team's status, it appears Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will try to get him to the Manchester United fold.
The potential acquisition of Grealish could be part of an impending exit by Paul Pogba. The 26-year-old midfielder is speculated to be leaving United this summer. Further, adding the English winger may allow fellow newcomer Fernandes to operate better in a deeper position.
If Manchester United is determined to sign Grealish, they need to come up with something fast. Apparently, they are not the only team planning to get the attacking midfielder. There are several teams equally interested in getting the Villa captain such as Tottenham - a team he came close to joining some seasons ago, Fox Sports AU reported.
Beyond Grealish, it looks like the Red Devils are not done yet. According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United has been scouting another player in the person of Marash Kumbulla. Per the report, the 19-year-old defender sent a good impression and will likely be offered something soon.
The rebuilding continues for the Red Devils as they continue to adjust to new management. In a previous post, it was discussed how Solskjaer needed time to prove he is fit to succeed former manager Sir Alex Ferguson. With investments now being made in young and promising players, it appears he is on track.
