Samsung has not even released the Galaxy S20 line to stores worldwide, it appeared that the conversation now shifts to the Galaxy Note 20, which likely will come out in the second half of 2020. How the handset will look like seemed to have been suggested by a new patent - claiming the phone will boast of a waterfall display.
In the patent that was recently awarded to Samsung, a planned device has been tipped to make use of the technology, which by the way, was previously employed by Chinese device makers such as Huawei and Oppo. However, in Samsung's implementation, the engineering impressively included the use of physical control keys.
"Samsung ... seems to have figured out a way to make the side buttons pass through the glass on the Galaxy Note 20," WCCFTech reported.
In addition, the same patent proposed the use of various sensors that likely will serve as terminals for inputs or for readings of the device's health-related functions. This was hinted by the mention of an electrocardiogram (ECG) sensor."
If the patent is indeed followed on the final cut of the Galaxy Note 20, a holographic projector could also be part of the deal, which the report said might be connected to Samsung's NEON artificial humans.
It should be noted though, that the Galaxy Note 20's Waterfall Display will not be a unique serving from Samsung. According to Android Central, Oppo has already confirmed the planned issuance of handset models that make use of the same technology in the coming months.
It is expected that other phone vendors in China will follow suit. For example, the Huawei Mate 30 Pro boasts of the same display, and it's highly likely that the Mate 40 Pro will unbox with the same, but with an improved implementation, the report added.
The final design that Samsung will employ for the Galaxy Note 20 is still generally unknown. The best available hint, for now, is a sketch of a device that was shared on Weibo, a popular microblogging site in China.
The sketch appeared to agree that a Waterfall Display will be used on the Note 20, according to Tom's Guide, adding the overall make of the case indicated quite a number of similarities with the Galaxy S20 series.
One would be the use of a camera module, as indicated in the case cutout, that can only be expected to be as powerful as the Galaxy S20 Ultra. Another indicator that seemed to confirm that the sketched case was for the Galaxy Note 20 is a hole at the bottom part that should serve as an opening for the device's signature S Pen stylus.
If Samsung's release template for the Galaxy Note series will still be used, the Galaxy Note 20 will be launched and released between September and October this year, or at least a month ahead of the Apple iPhone 2020 unveiling.
