China's Huawei Technologies is continuing its push to promote innovation across the globe through education and technology empowerment. The latest effort from the Chinese tech giants is now targeting the youth in the landlocked southeast African country of Malawi through a new tech-based project.
Young adults in Malawi are the main focus of Huawei's latest coding project. The company-sponsored project aims to teach the country's youth advanced computer and programming skills, which they can then use to improve their opportunities.
Project coordinator, Petro Kubwaro, explained that the project aims to equip the youth of Malawi and its future generations with necessary and practical knowledge to give them better opportunities in the rapidly growing techno-centric world.
Huawei recognizes that many developing countries are making giant technological leaps due to the increased access to information. This has been made possible by the increasing availability of advanced communication technologies, even in remote areas. For this reason, Huawei's project aims to teach the youth at a very young age to get them familiar with new technologies.
The coding project includes lessons in the basics of computing language, essentially laying down a solid foundation for future digital education among the youth in Malawi. Participants of the project have expressed their appreciation for Huawei Malawi's efforts in putting into action such an innovative project to enrich the youth in the far-flung African country.
Apart from computer language lessons, the program also includes simple classes on different technologies such as web development, animation, and video editing. The first phase of the project is being conducted in the commercial city of Blantyre. Huawei Malawi plans to roll out further phases in the coming months, extending the projects to other cities and regions in Malawi.
Huawei first entered Malawi back in 2008, when it started to provide end-to-end communication solutions to businesses and other institutions. Huawei's services and products have become widely available in the country, serving close to two-thirds of its total population.
Malawi is currently one of the world's least-developed countries, with its economy heavily relying on traditional industries such as agriculture. The country also has a largely rural population, which is growing at a rapid rate. Huawei aims to help the country's population by reducing its widespread unemployment by empowering its youth with technology.
The Chinese firm hopes that the technological advancement of the country's youth will result in the improvement of the country's the educational system, healthcare, and other support systems.
