Lucifer season 6 might still happen at some point, even though Netflix initially confirmed the fifth installment would be the final one. Although the series was not yet officially renewed for the sixth installment, it looks many were still interested to come back to the show -- including lead star Tom Ellis.

A recent report via TVLine noted that Ellis might be returning as the titular character in Lucifer season 6. Reportedly, the actor finalized a new deal to continue portraying his role in the potential sixth installment. Aside from Ellis, his co-stars are also willing to return for more.

Previously, showrunners Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich reportedly signed new contracts as well. Reports suggest the showrunners have closed new deals to remain at the helm if ever Lucifer season 6 is given the green light.

But although Ellis signs a new deal for the potential Lucifer season 6, there's no guarantee the series is officially coming back. For now, fans need to wait for the official announcement that Lucifer season6 will, indeed, happen on Netflix.

Many fans still believe the series is coming back for more, especially since most of the cast and crew are interested to come back. If ever renewed, it's interesting to see how the fifth season would end, especially since it was considered as the series' final run.

TVLine also reported earlier this month that Netflix was in talks with Warner Bros. Television to extend the life-span of the series beyond the previously announced fifth and final installment. The streaming platform has high hopes for the series, as it picked up the show after being canceled by Fox in 2018.

Meanwhile, the upcoming fifth installment will consist of 16 episodes and will be split into two parts. Netflix originally ordered 10 episodes, just like the fourth season. But after some time, the streaming platform ordered an additional 6 episodes, bringing the total to 16.

The core cast members are all coming back in the fifth installment. Ellis will be returning as Lucifer Morningstar, while Lauren German as Detective Chloe Decker. The new season will further explore their relationship, which is one of the most interesting storylines in the series.

As of the moment, the official release date of season 5 hasn't been revealed, but it will likely come out this 2020. Some reports also suggest that the first part may be dropped in summer 2020, while the second part may arrive towards the end of 2020.
