Lucifer season 4 arrived on Netflix earlier this month, and fans of the series are now wondering if it will be coming back for another installment and what will happen next. FOX canceled the series after its third season, but good thing Netflix saved it and gave it another shot. For now, here's what we know so far about Lucifer season 5.

Right now, the status of the fifth installment remains unpredicted as the streaming giant just dropped the series on May 8. It is very likely Netflix is monitoring the viewing figures before making an announcement of either renewing or canceling the program. But, the company has been secretive about its ratings, though it noted it considers a series or film watched if 70 percent was completed.

Lucifer fans, or also known as "Lucifans," also started a petition for Lucifer season 5 as they feared the series could be canceled once again. Actor Tom Ellis, who played Lucifer Morningstar, is also keen for another installment and said in some recent interviews he felt they haven't finished telling the story yet.

What's interesting here is that season 4 was released on a Wednesday rather than on a Friday - and this is when Netflix reportedly released its big Originals. But as mentioned, there are no available data to show that a certain day in a week has an impact on viewing figures.

Still, many believe Lucifer season 5 will be given a thumbs up, considering the show's worldwide fanbase. The series is in good stead, and the renewal announcement might be announced at some point, perhaps in the next few months.

Meanwhile, the previous season concluded with an open-ending so the show might be going in a different direction. The question now is if there will be a time jump if ever the series returns for a fifth installment. At the end of season 4, Lucifer made a tough decision, and he decided to go back to Hell.

Even though his love interest and LAPD detective Chloe Decker (played by Lauren German) protested, the Devil still chose to depart from the world. In the closing shot, he sat in the middle of Hell on his throne while he's looking upon his kingdom.

Now, the question in Lucifer season 5 is when he will come back to the world. And if he does make a return, then there might be a time jump in the new series. He decided to leave LA because his absence from Hell was leading his subjects becoming restless, and they're looking for a new king to rule over them.

A time jump in season 5 would make sense, as Lucifer will spend some time in Hell to re-establish his authority and then he could go back to LA. How much time will he spend there before going back to the world? The time in Hell and world could be different as well, so when he spends a significant amount of time in Hell, it could be like 1,000 years later when he goes back to LA.

Therefore, Lucifer's friends on Earth would've already died, and his return is fruitless. If ever the writers will indeed go this way, the entire cast - aside from Ellis - could be revamped so they would fit the new story. Also, showrunners Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich have been teasing about the Lucifer season 5, noting they try to "ping it in a different direction."
