One of the little things that idols need to deal with is the language barrier. Most Korean artists who end up overseas usually struggle to communicate with their international fans since they only speak little English. However, it looks like Mingyu of SEVENTEEN doesn't have this problem. A new video confirmed that Kim Mingyu is fluent in English as he has a short but sweet conversation with a woman from Houston.
The latest episode of Inside Seventeen is titled Mingyu's Satisfying Brunch Mukbang in Houston. It shows the rapper as he enjoys a meal before the soundcheck for their concert during the Northern American leg of the group's Ode To You world tour. Kim Mingyu heartily tucks into the meal, happily slurping up noodles before announcing that he is full. However, he still has room for dessert.
Luckily, there is an ice cream machine nearby and Mingyu discovers that fellow SEVENTEEN member Jun already has a sweet treat of his own. After sampling the vanilla ice cream, Mingyu decides to get some ice cream for himself. This is when he has a short conversation with the Houston woman who is giving out ice cream.
The woman notices Mingyu's camera and asks if he is doing a live broadcast. The SEVENTEEN member then responded that he isn't live and was about to point out that he was just recording when the lady asked him if he speaks English. Kim Mingyu shyly answers, "A little" then explains that he is recording himself for "our team YouTube channel."
It was a short conversation but Mingyu was quick to point out that it was hard for him to converse with the lady. Nevertheless, fans loved the idea that Kim Mingyu was showing off his English-speaking skills and that his English has improved a lot. Interestingly, the rapper also admitted that he loved being in the US because everyone was friendly and it was like he was friends with everyone. As if to make a point, he promptly says hello to one of the staff who is passing by.
SEVENTEEN recently completed the Northern American leg of their Ode To You world tour before returning to South Korea. Although the boy group was supposed to continue with the Southeast Asian and European leg of the world tour, the concert dates have been cancelled due to the Coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19). For now, the idols are set to begin their Japanese Dome Tour 2020 in May.
