Since last year, reports and rumors were claiming that Apple is planning to release a new iPhone model apart from its usual flagship iPhone series. Industry analysts and insiders all believe that the Cupertino tech giant is going to offer a new iPhone handset that would capture a different market segment. Interestingly, a new set of details about a new iPhone model was recently uncovered in the iOS 14 code.
iPhone 9 Plus
9to5Mac recently shared that it was able to uncover a new set of details about the highly awaited iPhone 9 from the iOS 14 code. The site revealed that they found evidence that the Cupertino tech giant is working on a larger iPhone 9 Plus, aside from the iPhone 9. It appears that both devices would be released to replace the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus.
The recent report is the first one to reveal that there might be a larger version of the entry level iPhone. The iPhone 8 series features the 4.7-inch and the 5.5-inch models. The leak makes sense considering the earlier rumors claim that the iPhone 9 will sport a 4.7-inch display.
The site also revealed that both iPhone 9 and iPhone 9 Plus would house Apple's A13 Bionic chip. This chip is currently found on the current generation flagship smartphone, the iPhone 11 series. If this is true, Apple is making the iPhone 9 series a very attractive entry level iPhone that could attract users of older iPhone models.
Other iPhone 9 and iPhone 9 Plus Details
Earlier reports and rumors claimed that the upcoming iPhone 9 might feature a Home button, which was first seen on the iPhone 7 and continued on iPhone 8. Home button minimizes the risk of hardware failure since it utilizes the Taptic Engine to simulate clicks. Additionally, the iPhone and iPhone 9 Plus is expected to feature the Touch ID.
This feature is very useful as it allows iPhone 9 and iPhone 9 Plus users to access the Express Transit and Apple Pay features. Moreover, it would allow NFC tag scanning, which is only possible in iPhone XR, iPhone XS, as well as the iPhone 11 series. While these claims seem interesting, it is worth noting that these are not official.
The terms iPhone 9 and iPhone 9 Plus at this point are speculative, and Apple might have different names when it finally releases the products. The iPhone 9 was earlier rumored to arrive this month, but until now, Apple has not yet revealed anything about the highly anticipated iPhone model.
