A lot of fans are excited to see Lucifer season 5 coming on Netflix, but it seems like the series may not be arriving anytime soon. The streaming platform confirmed their programming schedules for April, and it appears that the Tom Ellis-led series is not part of the line-up. The fifth installment will be split into two parts, with the first half bringing eight episodes.

Netflix shuts down the production of some of its series over the past weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. Lucifer is among the shows that have been halted and the show may not be airing sooner than expected. Previously, fans speculated Lucifer season 5 is coming to Netflix in April 2020, but that seems unlikely now.

The series is not part of the April lineup, so viewers may have to wait for a little while to see when it will be released. But according to CarterMatt, some things may change and there could be a last-minute addition to the lineup. The streaming platform may realize that a lot of fans were excited to see the new installment. It's also a good time to release it since most viewers are currently stuck at home.

Yet, although it seemed to be ideal, the situation is still complicated for some reason. If Lucifer season 5 arrives in April, it may not have a lot of press tours, trailers, as well as interviews. It would be difficult to promote the series for a short period of time, though it may also be a good move to deliver great streaming numbers. However, all of these are hard to predict in advance.

As for its potential release date, Lucifer season 5 may arrive on Netflix in May -- if not April. In addition, season 4 also premiered on the streaming platform back in May 2019, so the next season may drop around that month as well. There would also be enough time to promote the series and the demand could also get people even more excited.

Meanwhile, cast members reacted to the news about Lucifer season 5 shutting down production. Some of them took to social media to update fans about what's happening, with Ellis -- who plays the titular Lucifer Morningstar -- sharing a video of him seemingly pushing the camera away and telling his fans that social distancing is important. He also added to stay safe and stay home.

D.B. Woodside, who plays Amenadiel, also posted on his Instagram account and told fans that he still doesn't know when the fifth season will be released. He revealed that none of them know the exact date and they still need to finish filming episode 516. He then wrote in the caption: "I promise though you'll be the first to know when I have more info and can say so."
